Yep, that will cause it too. I have seen it where corn was mowed off going into a waterway and grew back. Ancient corn (maize) looked like that. I think it was a off type corn plant that threw a separate tassel from the ear that the Indians continued to breed and select for that lead to the modern corn plant.
