You would not want a pipeline crossing your land. I have 2 pipes that cross my land parallel to each other. And they cut a diagonal swath across 7 qtr. sections. They will pay for crop
damages much like the original poster has mentioned, easy, they have to. I think the payment mentioned is fair. The largest pipe I deal with is 30" and when only buried 30" below the surface this one can cause crop damage every year, from the extra heat generated, and can cause crop damage.
Each year the company sends out a letter having the landowner or renter submit a crop damage claim. Then an independent crop scout looks at the crop near harvest and makes the call. For easy figuring, if it affects an 8 ft. swath, that is a half acre affected, for the entire length.
Some years the damage is very evident. In a wet year not so much. | |
