Subject: RE: Perhaps sell your cows as breds this fall, sell your steer calves now,

New Mexico
keep your hiefers ( bangs tag em ), buy a bunch more hiefers ( bangs tag em ).

The goal is to go into next year with 3x as many hiefers as you currently run cow numbers.

Maybe sell 1/3 of the hiefers as replacements or spring feeders say April.

Breed the rest of the hiefers, sell half keep halfcome fall 012, and you'll go into 013 with the same number of hiefers to calf then as you have cows now.

Most likely you'll make enough dough on the 2/3's sold to WAY more than pay for the hiefers you keep.

Next option is sell all the hiefers as breds ( this cow and hiefer deal goin to be pretty short in the S now for years, thus pretty good long term opportunity for bred hiefer and replacement propagation programs).

Texas for instance will dump well over 1 million cows in this drouth.

Half of em will quit, the other half will grow back in.
Especially the game farms will be looking for cows.
Reason is some grazing cuts future fire risks and they've learned that the hard way this year.
