There is a product called SilentHerder which I have usesd quite a lot.
It isn't 100% but does make a big difference. It is a free choice mineral that helps reduce the frothing involved with bloat.
Personally I have decided there isn't much of an advantage grazing alfalfa, where I am the native grass puts the most pounds on the calves.

If you do graze alfalfa the worst times for bloat are a few days after they are put out into a mixed field and they have eaten off the grasses and are forced to eat the alfalfa or after a rain and the new growth is wet and lush. It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem when the plants have less moisture in them.

Just my experience. http://www.cattleminerals.com/
