What appears to work here.
It is called dinner time grazing. When you are ready to go to the house Dinner, (Noon Meal) open the gate and push them in. After a good meal and maybe a short nap, open the gate and run them out. After a few days training all but one or two will be out by the time you get back from dinner.

The rational is they will have had time to graze grass all morning and are not starving. The dew is all burned off. You do not give then time to lay down and flatten the stand.

This is best when used to compliment poor quality grass.

This way bloat is minimal, limited to chronic bloaters. It is easier on the stand. Does not require cross fencing or putting in water.

Disadvantage is it requires a little time management.

For little to no management plant your own grassy weeds with the alfalfa and when it is up and growing good open the gate. Check on them next week some time. Most will be doing well. Better system would be to let them in for a few hours the first few days and a little longer every day after that.
