Subject: RE: Bentonite is a Montmorrillic(sp) Clay

SW Saskatchewan
And swells tremendously when wet, shrinks as much when dry.

Common in Canadian Solonetzic soils, tends to hold sodium ions in the soil, needs a lot of Ca to allow leaching. Deep rip here to bring some gypsum to the surface-here the Ca layer is below 18".

We apply it to sandy soils, needs conventional till, see no big advantage or disadvantage from the bentonite but a lot of the drilling mud is rich in Phosphate which DOES make a difference.

In my opinion keep it off clay or silt soil.
