Had a gal come here about a month ago to do the same thing. She ended up putting her stakes about 50 feet apart in a draw in the best part of my best field. Sure didn't look too random to me.
That field of Everest ended up making 66.2 bu per acre. Only one other field even came close to making that. I had plenty of wheat making in the 30s. Not done cutting yet.
