Subject: Re: JD 9670 Small Wire Concaves in Wheat

Depends how many acres you do and what your expectations are for capacity. You can get by without them, moreso if the wheat is easily threshed. The tougher threshing the variety, the bigger the advantage for the small wire concaves. If you can thresh your wheat with the roundbars and inserts and get an acceptable sample, there's no problem doing it. But in many tougher threshing varieties that simply won't cut it and the sample gets very dirty in a hurry. Small wire concaves will make a night-and-day difference here. Whatever you do, avoid the use of cover plates if at all possible. Personal opinion - I would have a set and install them for wheat.
