Pittsburg, Kansas | I try to imagine what the corn belt would look like if it were opened up today like South America is being opened up instead of being settled and homestead in 160 acre parcels like it originally was. It would be a vastly different looking agriculture. That is the look of agriculture we could be competing with. So far..................so far, countries with the resources that could be used in a massive way have had many internal problems preventing them from reaching their potential. All the while we have a government trying to tie our hands with regulations. If we continue to get worse on the regulation front as some new or refurbished frontier gets their act together, it may become a problem for my kids. We look at European fields, their tiny size (some of Europe, not all), the restrictions on the tractor and equipment widths that can travel down the roads and wonder how they can farm. There are other places in the world that will some day look at the diced up fields held over from homesteading we have here and wonder how we are able to farm. BTO's are a dirty word on this discussion board, but some day a BTO in the USA may look like small potatoes to other parts of the world. Actually they already do. Size is all relevant. John |
