I did it for about 5 years that way 6/8. Not the easiest, but it worked alright. Biggest thing I ran into was loosing the marker line, but when I added a light bar it really helped. I would not be afraid of it, and after you see how much fuel you save you will not feel at all bad about either getting a wider unit or Autosteer.
