Subject: running a 6 row strip till and planting 8 rows??

SE VA
Will this work? I have wanted to switch to strip till for some time now and a neighbor has a 6 row KMC strip till rig set up exactly like I want for sale. The problem is that it is 6 rows and we have an 8 row planter. I feel like if you get off your mark a little it will compund across the field and end up being a mess. We do not have anything with auto steer. Just looking for opinions or anyone that has tried this before. I know this won't be ideal but hoping it will work. Oh, and this is on 36' rows and the kmc is set up to make an ~18" strip. Thanks.
