Very few ethanol plants "speculate" by being long corn as you are indicating. 2008 killed most of those guys.
If the ethanol plant in question bought corn at $4, it is very likely they sold ethanol or distillers to offset this position. Since ethanol and distillers have went up with corn, the products are at much lower prices offsetting all the gains made by the "cheap" corn.
