Le Sueur VIA St.Thomas | hey bharz,
I talked to a guy from USG (United States Gypsum) once at a trade show. He said that the paper tape was better than fiberglass tape. Fiberglass will 'bind' panels together- if you have any movement (temperature extremes, etc) the fiberglass can fail resulting in a paint crack. If paper tape is applied over a light layer of mud and you have the same movement the panels will slip behind the paper tape with less likelyhood of paint cracking.
Another tip I found on some random website was to dunk/soak the paper tape in water for a few seconds before applying. Their suggesiton was to apply a thin layer of mud, wet and apply tape and follow with the knife, and let it set/harden befe topcoating. I have had pretty decent results with this method.
good luck -jim | |
