Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | When we first got our MIG in '06, I just used it on new clean metal. The more I use it the more confidence I've gained. I'm now willing to use it on the painted, rusty crap that I would have only used 6011 on in the past. I've had better results with the MIG on that stuff than I ever had with the 6011, actually. Added benefit is that the weld tends to look a lot nicer. MIG is a huge time saver on projects that require lots of feet of weld.
Just about the only time I use a stick is in the field. The old buzz-box in the shop doesn't see much action anymore. It works really nice on thin metal too. We sure don't braze as much as we used to, just MIG it instead.
