Statesville, NC | I don't know if the slip clutch working would have helped you. The problem with all twin spindle cutters is when you hit an object with one side, the momentum of rotating mass from the other side gives the gearboxes a great shock load. They can't have slip clutches between the gearboxes because they are timed. By nature of what a bush hog does and the mass of rotating parts I don't think trying to time them is a good idea. For that reason I like a seven foot single spindle, and if I needed anything larger it would be a flex wing, since they have slip clutches for each gearbox. I have seen a lot of problems with twin spindle machines of all makes. The best system of protecting the gearboxes I have seen on a twin spindle is the older Woods with a square bar that was designed to twist. They held up well, they just leaked a lot. | |
