Subject: Coverboards on Rippers - yes or no?

nc IA
So I heard today for the first time that some people are advocating NOT running coverboards on parabolic ripper shanks - things I've heard are that it buries too much residue to deep thereby creating more issues for row cleaners to be able to pull it out in the spring, in addition to making it harder to level.

I had just purchased the 8" coverboards for my 530 DMI I purchased a couple months ago. Now I'm debating on returning them for the 4" ones just to have something left to protect the shank from wear.

Wondering what your opinions are and what agronomically your reasoning is for or against. FWIW this will be run this fall in a C on C situation, with a JD 724 finisher single pass in the spring. 2-4% slopes, 180 bu corn.

Thanks!
