My pete has a 10 spd 3.90 gears and 24.5 tires. At 70mph I'm turning 1500rpms. I test drove a pete with a 18spd(which I think the OD is close in ratio) with 4.33's I think it was running 17-1800rpms at 70 mph. My truck has a cat in it, depends on the motor, a 60 series detroit would run like a raped ape with those gears. The c-15 cats like to turn slower. If you can keep it down around 60 I don't think you'd hurt milage that much, but 70......
