Subject: settle an issue---Do they still caponize roosters??--chicken experts??

On another site we got into a chicken discussion,,,this was all with non-farmer type people. They see capons in grocery stores and CLAIM they are old time surgecailly altered roosters,,,I contended they were probably just a broiler, regular raised, and 'labeled' capons for flash and show.

Not being a chicken expert nor growing them,,,do they still go thru the long and detailed manuel phyisical caponizing them??? I read how they do this,,,or used to do it,,,sounds quite extensive, and possible infectious, course I guess steering a bull calf is a possible prob too. OR are capons imported from other countries???

My thought was capons were an old time way to increase value to the excess roosters people had. Before the advent of the modern broiler, that is. Fast growing and VERY tasty.

Who is sorta correct???
