I'd say a mini-X would lead a pretty easy rental life, as almost everyone is allergic to a shovel anymore, and many times it most likely went out to only do a small job that probably would have been pretty easy to do by hand.

As to the "line" about it being up to snuff so it was always ready to go---typical salesman CRAP, I wouldn't put an ounce of faith in that. Treat all unknown salesman as the liars they most likely are and you will be better off in the long run. Not trying to be mean, just have played this game for 35 years and have been burned enough to learn my lesson well. DO NOT BELIEVE UNKNOWN SALESMAN at all.

Look it over carefully. If you can live with the price, ask to rent it for a day or week with the understanding that the rental is 100% applied to the purchase if you like it. I have bought things very successfully that way, and, just as importantly, DIDN'T buy once when I found major shortcomings during the rental period.
