Fashion changes and things that look "in" now will look as silly as they are in a few years.  But the effect some fashion and verbiage has on a society is detrimental.  Many are concerned that the future is in the hands of incompetent boobs that have no understanding of our rich culture and language.  In 1964 the average student had a vocabulary of 30,000 English words, today the average is 15,000.  The lack of continuity and the lack of knowledge of our history is the root of our and future generations destruction.  

That is why people care, they worry about you and the future.
