Soutwest Ks.
Some people do make the assertion that Phos can be tied up in the soil. If that is indeed correct, in that scenario it is possible that deep banding Phos would make it possible to cut back on rates as more would be available to the plant. Has the theory that certain types of soil will tie up Phos been proven or is that speculation? Anybody know for certain? I would like to hear. What I find kind of amazing is I have a neighbor who spreads 11-52-0 on the surface in the spring. Does not work it in. Maybe will run a stump remover over the old row and plants but that is it.
He apparently is raising very good corn. Never have asked him specifically about yields but the crops always look good. NH3 is knifed in 15" away from the row. Monday, if I get a chance I am going to ask him about the fertilizer rates he uses. I suspect he probably puts on considerably more then I do.
