But if the garden has been mulched, the wheel damage on the soil will be dramatically less. Abundant mulch cover and the soil structure from continuous no-till help minimize the damage from wheel traffic, although I agree 100% with you and Steve about needing to exercise caution on this anyway. I'm a big fan of oversize tires (radials, with *proper* inflation pressure), and to some extent, tracks.
