Subject: Re: JD drills : 750 vs 1560

Leesburg, Ohio
We have both a late model 750 and a pair of 1560's. Never heard of any Deere drill breaking closing wheel springs on a regular basis. We have broken maybe one or two in 15 years on 4 different drills.

We seem to get a better stand with the 750. I think it is because of the difference in the seed boots...the two-piece boot, like was said above, is not good for seed placement/spacing.

The 1560's are more reliable because of the better design of the closing wheel bearings, rockshafts, and grease fittings. The top of the seed box slopes upwards, instead of being flat, and accomodates more seed capacity like the 1590's.

I wouldn't be afraid of any of the three models (1590, 1560, or late 750). I would probably shy away from an early 750 simply because of the extreme number of grease fittings on each unit, and rockshaft bracket problems.
