More than likely the solenoid but starter could be damaged because of it..   On something that needs to go like a chopper I would at least get them both looked at.

  Had that type of thing happen on a Case 1370.    Finally found that one the litle clips that are used to conncet to the starter switch had come off and fell across the start terminal.  Long as it was in gear the safety shutoff kept the starter disengaged,put it in neutral and the starter kicked in.  Took awhile to get it diagnosed.
