South Texas | In my immediate area, 100 bushels is truely a homerun on dryland corn. We made it this year, but it doesn't come often. Our biggest problem is that there is no consistency from year to year. One year is 20 bushel corn, the next 100, the next 45. The other guys are correct - you only spend for what you plan to make. However, i've never heard of this regional pricing thing on seed. The "no drying" thing is correct - I don't know of a single elevator that even has a dryer? Here's the breakdown in my area...
$40.00 Rent (or 1/4 shares is common)
$15.00 Insurance
$35.00 Fertilizer (usually 300 lbs total blend)
$45.00 Seed (planted at 17,000 population)
$10.00 Roundup
$25.00 RMS (repair, maintenece, supplies)
$15.00 Fuel
________
$185.00
At $3.50 corn, that's 52 bushels on breakeven. How would 100 not be a homerun?
