Queensland | A few replys on my previous power hopping thread suggested gearing up and reving down. What `s everyone`s thought on when the engine is lugging to capacity. I`m ploughing in 9th gear full revs lugging down to 2100/2150rpm. To go at the same speed in 10th gear i need to have the revs at 1950rpm, tractor seems to handle it fine but i noticed the temp a little higher. To go at the same speed in 11th gear i`m down to about 1800rpm and if i hit a hard patch the engine rpm`s drop even more. My question i`ve had for quite some time on this topic is what is a acceptable RPM to work at all day pulling a heavyish load that won`t overheat the engine?
I`m all for trying to save on fuel that`s for sure. Do you think the 10th gear senario would be the best for my tractor?
Forgot to say it`s a 8300 JD.
Can anyone share what they run there tractors rpm on under heavy loads?
Hope i haven`t confused or bored anyone here.
