Subject: Where are the predicted hurricanes?

Central Illinois
We are experiencing one of the hottest recorded years globally to date according to the National Climate Data Center. June 1010 was the hottest on record for combined ocean and landmass surface temperature at 61.1 degrees F. It was the fourth consecutive monthly record for the year. July 2010 was also hot at 61.6 degrees F, but it only ranks 2nd with July 1998 being hotter. The period of Jan - Jul 2010 is the warmest ever recorded at 58.1 degrees F.

Since hurricanes are nature's way of dissipating the excess heat, why haven't we seen a more active hurricane season so far? Does this mean that last half Aug - Nov could still be very active? Has anyone heard any discussion on the topic? It would be great to hear from Craig Solberg or any other meteorologist that happens to be following AgTalk.

The trend of global warming continues. July was the 305th consecutive month with an average temperature above the 20th century average. The last month with below average temperature was February 1985. Makes one wonder if the corn belt will move north with time if the climate is changing as some have predicted?
