Any time late summer to early fall, at least 4 to 10 weeks before the first killing frost. They will begin to winterkill when temps fall to the mid teens, similar to fall planted spring oats. The radishes germinate quickly, and will emerge within days, generally. We're into August now, so I don't think any time in the near future would be too soon, since your ground is ready. Don't see any draw backs, since I don't think there is such a thing as them growing too big.Tell me when the first killing frost will be. :)
I'm learning rapidly about tillage radish myself, since I'm working with Leon Bird to be able to supply radish seed in this part of the country. Fits in well with the rest of my work. Maybe someone else can give a more specific answer.
