Ripon, WI | IMO, the areas with the most farmer held grain always have the grain. I worked in NW Iowa for many years. Our western elevators were nearly always done shipping in June or early July. The eastern most elevator was just the opposite. Very little corn moved until brown silk. Then the corn came out of the wood work. We needed to load two 100 car units per week, and sometimes got full between trains anyway. Prices will modify this opinion, of course, but as a year in year out average, it will be pretty close to right.
I believe Ray is spot on with his thoughts. Along with Corning, IA being without a nearby corn bid, so is Superior, Lakota, Emmetsburg and Friesland, WI. I think you'll see more each week exiting the spot market. This will put more corn into the plants that do have space open and will probably plow basis in levels that will be quite unattractive.
My thanks to all of you who participate in this forum. I have and continue to learn daily.
