Subject: Three cornered alfalfa leafhoppers?

Eastern NC
Does anyone else find these boogers in their soybean fields? I was looking at some fields and noticed that some of the stalks were broken right above the soil line. Some stalks had been injured but had not broken off but the strange thing is that those stalks were actually sending out new roots above the unjured site that look just like brace roots on corn. All of the leafhoppers that I found were still in the nymph stage so I am assuming that maybe one cycle of them have already done the damage I am seeing. Can anyone fill me in because I have not seen this type of damage before. Is this something to get alarmed over?
