Subject: Nicor natural gas installation cost

Cullom, Illinois
After last years wet harvest, I contacted Nicor to see about switching my dryer to natural gas. They sent me a five page form to fill out and to return to them. They would have to go 1400' through the field to the dryer. Thought while I'm at it, they may as well hook up to the shop furnace also. Well, six months later they got back to me with the cost. $76,000!!!! How can this be? If the 2" pipe was $10 per foot that's $14,000 plus lets say $10,000 for the meter and $10,000 for labor costs equals $34,000. And I think these numbers are generous. And they won't let you install the pipe yourself. This is ridiculous. Has anyone out there seen similar numbers from them?
