SW Saskatchewan | I have problems contemplating a major reduction in Canola production. A lot of the acres should benefit from the additional moisture plus the low seed requirement for Canola makes it an ideal candidate for flying on and harrow in.
In my discussions with friends in the wetter areas of the province, it seems that a lot of the canola went in first and as the season shortens, it keeps looking like a better and better risk than cereals.
Wheat is a non contender, who would want to pay to dry wet feed barley this fall? and Canary has tanked in price. Oats-except for a small human consumption component have been made redundant by the distiller grains from the ethanol plants.
My forecast- canola and lentils will benefit from the delay in seeding. Cereals down big time.
And its worth exactly what you paid for it! | |
