nc ks | One of the big reasons for lack of tramlines, in my opinion, is that the areas in the USA that get enough moisture that intensive management would actually pay over the long term will intensively manage a crop that is going to make them more money than wheat. I don't know if Europe subsidises their wheat more than the US and so the farmers can justify spending that money on wheat or what. Here in the plains, you can do everything right on the wheat and then get a hot dry windy week of weather during grain fill that just kills the yield at least 5 or 6 years out of 10. There is a lot more reward opportunity with row crops than there is with highly managed cereal crops in this area. Here, wheat tends to be just a rotational crop or a low input/low return crop for the guys that don't want to risk the row crops. | |
