Usually plowing half as deep as your furrow width is best if you want to bury everything. Ie 8 deep and 16 wide. I have a variwidth plow too (Gregoire Besson 6 furrow rollover) and while it is nice to plow at 18"@7" deep, it really does a nicer job at 16".
