I'd say use a machine like the one in the iseedit photo. Last year we planted orchardgrass into winter wheat in early April at 3 lbs per acre. After harvest of the wheat and straw in July we planted alfalfa at 15 lbs per acre. It looks pretty good now even with some volunteer wheat in it.
