central - east central Minnesota - | I broadcast the mix with fert when I did mine. Some of the orchard grass (or alfalfa) settle out and didn't get the nice field blend I wanted. The other issue with orchard grass mixed in with alfalfa is drying time - the orchard grass will take longer to dry then the alfalfa. Aside from those problems I experence, I'd just roll it and not drag it. I'd guess your wheat would be sprouted after a week and draging it would kill some of the wheat. Another option could be to plant (direct seed) the mix when you harvest the wheat (1st part of Aug ?). That should be enough time to get the alfalfa / orchard grass established before winter in your location ? It works down here . . . Anyway, that's how I would be thinking about the issue. |
