A real cheap and easy way to knock down the population is to mix the seed with corn seed. If you use Command, it will kill the corn. Otherwise, just put the seed in the oven long enough to kill it. Mix it in small batches; the corn tends to settle out of the pumpkin seed as it goes through the field.
