Subject: Cash Rent (well loss of it)

I know this is a topic that comes up on the forum, and I am suprised it is me asking now.

Situtation:

Last fall when I paid the landlord I asked if I could farm next year (2010)? I get a verbal yes then after 2010 we would discuss as he might want it back to hay etc...

So March 28 2010 comes around and I have a spreader of potash in the field spreading until the son comes out, and says "dad wants to talk to you before you do any more"

When I get to the house I am informed "I rented this out to another farmer last week" He seemed to have another spin to our fall conversation regardless he said he was going to come down later that same day to inform me of this.

The question is:

How do you handle this?

In Indiana there is a 3 month notice policy in writing

I informed him I would have liked to at least been told he was looking so I did not buy inputs, and he is suprised I bought inputs (seed, chemicals, fertilizer spreading sitting in the field in front of him!!)

Thanks for your thoughts
