Lapel, In
A wise man once said , you gotta raise it before you can sell it.
Its been almost 20 years since we had a really bad crop. With the strength we are seeing in the market considering the crops we have produced in the last few years, where would the price top out should we get hit with a near disaster of a crop like we did in 1988 or 1983?Add to that, yields in odd number years (2007) typically are lower than the previous yea.
In this senario, I think selling ahead is very risky unless you protect your ability to deliver on your promoise to produce the goods. Personally, I am a little leary of sure bets as a rule. Right when you think you have it figured out, the rules change. That 4 dollar corn could turn out to be 2 dollar corn if you only raise half a crop.
Food for thought,bob
