Burlington, IA
It'd be a good investment just about anywhere in southern IA. 3 years of corn is long enough to justify it, refer to Ed's post above. I'd say handling depends on how you get your beans, bags, or mini's. For less than $20, mini augers that fit in a cordless drill are available, and do a great job of mixing something like Graph-Ex in the planter box. If using a tender, for $500-$1200, an applicator mounted to your tender will allow you to apply inoculant or other seed treatments as the beans go to the planter, can be had for either dry or liquid. If your dealer is set up for point of sale treatments, inoculant can certainly be applied with the other seed treatments. But not everybody is set up for point of sale treatment, yet. That's at least another $5-15K investment for the dealer.

As far as Maddog's post on proof, Google Dr. Jim Beuerlein's inoculant studies at OSU. I believe the last one he did was in 2007, and they go back for a number of years before that. A lot of ground in OH is similar to much of southern IA. Maddog can pooh-pooh all he wants, but the results from someone like Dr. Beuerlein speaks for itself. Today's inoculants are nothing like the ones our Dads and Granddads used.
