This backs up what Franzen has been saying at NDSU. Urea will not volatize if it is covered with soil. If it is surface applied and not incorporated, then losses have the potential to be high unless 0.3"-0.5" of rain falls shortly after application. The worst case is a wet soil with heavy residue. Very dry bare soil will have the least amount of loss. Franzen also has data showing that Agrotain is the ONLY urease inhibitor that works.
