Central Florida | Have you tried an in-line ripper? They use them here for HEL ground to keep residues on the surface for erosion control. This doesn't destroy the soil structure as much as a V-ripper. We have seen the same issues here in Missouri where flat ground will have water standing for days as it has to evaporate instead of infiltrating down into the soil profile. This has really helped corn yields in both dry and wet years. I disagree that this hides problems. Ponding water on the surface is the problem caused by dense soil layers below the surface. Gypsum helps to keep the pore space large enough to allow water to drain from the surface but if you have dense layers below the surface. it will stop draining at that point. | |
