Subject: Stream Bank Buffer Zones

West Central WI
Was curious if other states have them. WI is currently proposing a mandatory 20ft. buffer around any stream bank. By stream bank it appears that they mean any channel where water might run at least once over a hundred years. I farm some acres near creeks and streams. I have always left a buffer, but not always 20 ft. Many are against the rule including the Farmers union. For some farmers if you add up 20 ft around many of their fields it really adds up to alot of acres. I agree that you should not farm right up to an active stream, but is 20 ft necessary in your minds in all cases? Maybe a case by case scenario would be more logical?
