If it was me and I could swing it I would go with a reman all the way.

Number one, you will get some kind of warranty and normally a reman is a decent rebuild job.

Number two depends on how hot it has been. If it has been hot enough you may run into a warped or cracked head and in extreme cases I have seen a warped or cracked block. If it is only been mildly hot you may not run into so much damage, but if it has been really cooked it could be an expensive deal to rebuild yours.

I am not sure about JD, but a lot of remans come with the rebuilt critical parts (e.g. water pump, injection pumps, etc).

Another benefit of reman is time. You can drop a reman in and be going in a couple of days versus a couple of weeks to rebuild yours by the time you get the machine work done and parts rounded up.

Personally I love building engines and have rebult many, but anymore it usually pencils out better to go with the reman engines.
