To supply the outlet and switch you need two 12/2 wg or a 12/3 wg. What you call 12/3, I believe is 12/2 WG.

You need to run the supply 12/2 WG to the outlet/switch box from the suppy side. Splice all three conductors in the cold light box, unhooking the cold light box. In the new outlet/switch box, you connect that cable to the outlet. Then you splice in another 12/2 WG with the switch in the black wire and go to the cold light and the new cold lights. That switch will turn off the far end cold outlet.

OR you could run a 12/3 WG from the cold light box. Unhook black from the lamp, splice it to black in the 12/3. connect white and bare to the light and the feed cable.. In the switch/outlet box you feed the outlet with black white and bare. You connect black also to the switch. Then connect RED to the other side of the switch. Back at the cold light box, you connect red to the light where you took off black. But you need 12/3 WG to make this with one cable.
