Subject: 1963 was/is a very good year

Coldwater, Michigan
I am a Mopar man from the beginning. Brother had a 64 New Yorker with 413. Awesome. Had many of the Mopar engines over the year. One day a mechanic was critisizing the 2nd series 318, and what a terrible engine it was. I looked at him and stated it may be a terrible engine but everyone I know with a Gm engine thinks they need overhauled at about 100,000, and I'm still running my 318 at 160,000. His answer was Yeh that's true, but they are still a terrible engine!

I know this isn't Mopar, but on a further note of the era: I own the 13th Studebaker Avanti built. Model year 1963, 289 Studebaker engine Superchargered from the factory. They ran them as stock at Bonneville in in 63 at 186 miles/hour average over the ten mile stretch. This past summer one of them, as stock, with the 304 Block ran 229MPH top speed for the 5 mile stretch. Old equipment with modern technology applied.
