Mid Michigan
I wouldn't think its unusual to have water in the trench this time of year. With all the mud and stuck pictures that have been on here there is a lot of ground water in saturated soil and it wouldn't take long to fill up a trench. Try digging post holes during a wet spring or fall. The holes fill up pretty fast. We were looking for a tile one day and I dug this trench and it had this much water in it in about 20 minutes. I had to work fairly fast to do a hookup to keep the water from getting too deep. This was in the spring after an extremely wet winter.
