Subject: Some things I learned this year

Central NE
I have observed some very interesting things this year. here are some of the things I've learned:
1. A yield monitor tells you A LOT more than a field average yield ever will.
2. You can grow 300 bushel corn without applying nitrogen.
3. You can grow 125 busel corn without applying nitrogen.
4. Yields can be affected by things that happened 50 to 100 years ago and the way I farm may affect yields 50 to 100 years later.
5. Organic matter added to hilly high calcium soils and "low fertility" = amazing corn for multiple years
6. irrigated corn on corn in a flood plain of highly fertile soil = disappointing corn. The less water, the better the corn this year for me.
7. Irrigation is overrated. or at least overused. Timing trumps quantity. N from the soil appears much more available in dryer and well drained areas, and not overwatered.
8. I'm glad I don't farm in southern Illinois, or northeast Arkansas, or Alberta or.... (no offense)
9. I am definitely sold on no-till, and what Soil-life said: farm for my farms' profit
10. I'm not alone - thank god for NAT
11. The more I know the more I don't know.

Thanks to everyone for letting me listen in on some great discussions.
