I think the jury is still out on whether we really NEED them or not. I think Monsanto needed Herculex to plug the Western bean Cutworm hole more than Dow needed them for insect control. Dow needed to do this if they ever wanted Herculex to be a widely used trait and generate big royalty money. Syngenta has some very good traits but how will they get them to market without partnering with someone and since not using your own traits might mean they are somehow inferior you will get a stack of some sort. Pioneer is the odd man out since they don't have any technology they can license to anyone else which make the GAT delay even more damaging to them.
