Thumb of Michigan | All depends on your soil samples. I have a number of sand knolls that are short Mg, in my case either sul-po-mag or K-mag is usually enough to correct the problem if I'm going after a Mg application only. If I need to lime, ag lime is usually the most cost effective way to apply Mg. Gypsum on any of my soils is a mistake, it'll take a short nutrient and make it, well, shorter believe it or not. But back to lime- we have enough calcitic lime available at sugar beet plants to bury Michigan about a foot deep. I'm assuming you have the same thing there. We've applied quite a lot of lime over the years that was a blend of ag lime and beet lime, depending on the Mg requirement. That works just fine. | |
